Thermablock's insulation strips almost completely eliminate the cold bridges in structures, so far an unresolved factor in energy loss in structures. The material mainly consists of silica airgel, developed by NASA. Thermablock is a patented flexible, nanoporous aerogel insulation. By simply adding a Thermoblok strip to the basic structure (eg on the metal studs, or on the wooden rails), before the plasterboards are mounted, the thermal bridge in the structure is efficiently broken. Thermablock is a thermally innovative solution and can be an important component in low-energy building. The technology for this product is based on the technology used in the space shuttle mission and the march missions. The material consists of 90% air and has the lowest thermal conductivity of any other product with the same application. (13.5 mW / mK) The Thermablock strips improve the total R-value (= heat resistance) of the structure independently of the other insulation used. Tests of various assembled structures show an improvement of the R-value of 40% (United States Dept. of Energy Oakridge National Research Laboratory & JM Lab). American studies show that 10-15% of the energy loss of buildings is lost by ' cold bridges' in constructions. Thermal bridges in construction are often underestimated and wrongly often not included in the thermal calculations. The patented chemical composition of Thermablock provides the unique water-repellent and breathable structure.
