SoundPLAN was one of the very first commercial sound calculation programs. It has been sold since 1986. Due to the increasing international market, an international office was opened in 1999. The core business of SoundPLAN is the forecast of the noise load due to various noise sources such as road traffic, rail traffic, industry etc. SoundPLAN uses 2D and 3D techniques to perform sound calculations according to various national or international calculation rules. The software is standard equipped with various calculation protocols such as:
- Europe/International: ISO9613 part 1
- Germany: VDI 2714 / VDI 2720 / DIN 18005 / TA-Laerm
- Austria: OeAL 28
- UK: BS 5228
- Nordic: General Prediction Method for Industrial Plants / Nord 2000
- Japan: ASJ industrial model
- USA: Industry model based on TNM, WDI
- The calculations for indoor noise problems are based on the VDI 3760.
Although all standard mathematical models for industrial noise sound attenuation prognosing as defined by established physical rules, there are some differences. Some models forecasting the worst case scenarion under tailwind conditions, other prognosticating sound attenuation under average meteorological conditions. There are three basic models. VDI 2714/2740 general model for predicting industrial noise, OEAL28 and ISO9613 have the same roots but different variaties.Voor predicting sound propagation in buildings uses the VDI 3760.
The Dutch calculation according to the Manual Measurement Computing and Industrial Noise 1999 not included as explicit calculation, but according to the international standard ISO9613.
